You may not know this, but in 2009 I thought I would try a vegan diet for a few weeks. At the time I was in the Army full time and was under a lot of stress at home because I had two young kids and I was going through a divorce. I had symptoms like; frequent headaches, indigestion, fatigue, sleep apnea, bad allergies, and achy joints. I thought going vegan for a while would help me feel better.
Unfortunately, I did not do much research (because I thought it would be easy) and just stopped eating meat, dairy, and anything else that comes from an animal. I started off very hungry and I ate very erratically. I did dumb stuff - I ate a whole loaf of french bread, ate bowl after bowl of cereal with almond milk, drank coffee and sweet tea to try to get more energy and add tons of fruit to my meals.
After just a few days I was so foggy headed that my coworker thought I was either drunk or hungover. My stomach was constantly bloated and my pants wouldn't button closed. After just eight days I gave up the diet and just ate meat and veggies for the next several weeks. In three weeks I had gained 15 pounds. I have NEVER gained weight that fast before. Not even when I was pregnant. And I have always maintained the same weight within 10 pounds all my adult life, so I knew something was wrong with my body.
Looking back it is easy to see what I did wrong and what was going on with my body. Actually, this incident is what pushed me to add nutrition training to my education.
My body was toxic. After the major hormonal imbalance from having two kids in 21 months, added to a job loss, a cross country move, full time college, a divorce, and all the stress that comes with each of these major life situations, my body was depleted, overwhelmed, and exhausted. The only way to get healthy again was to slow way down, eat only whole foods, and exercise regularly. But first, I did a detox much like what I teach in this workshop.
I am sharing this with you because I am sure you think that being healthy is easy for me. Well, it is....NOW. But I have struggled and made mistakes and pushed my body further than I should have.
I want to share my experience and expertise with you so you don't have to spend years trying a bunch of different diets, pills, or programs to feel good. Feeling good and living healthy should be simple and feel natural and good. And this is what I specialize in >>>> Personalized Wellness Education.
